Sports Guards
What is a sports guard? In the simplest form, a sports guard is a thickness of material, usually, a soft or hard plastic, which separates the upper and lower teeth and depending on the type of sport it can cover the teeth for protection. The original sports guard design covers the upper teeth separating the upper from the lower teeth to help protect the TMJ's or the tempromandibular jouints as well as providing protection for the teeth against traumatic injury. Recently Under Armour has developed a mouth guard that has been proven to actually improve performance as well as provide protection for the joints and teeth. If you have questions or concerns regarding the need or use of any of the appliances, please feel free to call 901-755-4876.
